Most people use ChatGPT or Claude the same way they used a search box. You open a tab, you ask a question, you close the tab. That is fine for a one-off. It is a weak way to run work that already lives on your computer.

The chat you keep starting over

Here is the typical loop. You have a draft, a report, or a transcript. You paste it into the chat. Or you have a skill, you invoke it. Then you ask what is wrong, or what to do next. You get a decent answer. Then you leave.

A week later you are back with a new file, and you start over. The model is smart. The session is not. It barely remembers what you dropped in yesterday. It does not know whether other reports you were working on were already off.

You are paying for a coworker and treating it like a help desk that forgets you the moment you close the window.

Connect them to your local folder

If you already use tools like ChatGPT Work or Claude Cowork, you do not have to keep pasting. Some of these tools can already see a folder on your computer. That is the unused move. Point the AI at the folder you already work in. Not a special project folder you will forget to use. The one where content, reports, and meeting notes already land.

Then schedule the agent to look on a daily schedule. Whatever new file you’ve dropped in there, he will see. You do not need to open the chat, he monitors anything new and learns from repetition (best if you have an external memory)

Also tell the agent to alert you if anything is terribly wrong

Then you come back to your chat

The benefit comes the day you come back to your regular chat. When you finally sit down and ask for help, it is not starting from zero. It already knows what went wrong, what is on fire, and what is due. It already monitored all documents for days or weeks.

Same model, same app, but a whole different game. Play it!
